Inspired by the nostalgia of 1980s summerween, the Rewind 1985 package brings the suspense of classic slasher films to life—placing guests at the center of the story instead of behind the screen. Every guest steps into the role of a detective, uncovering clues, questioning suspects, and piecing together the truth. Whether it's planned as the main event or simply a fun party activity, it gives guests something to talk about long after the case is closed.

The experience is best hosted outdoors, ideally at a venue with a pool that captures the atmosphere of a classic 1985 summer party. From the moment guests arrive, they're welcomed into Johnny Vinyl's world with a photo opportunity beside a Gullwing installation before making their way to a display of '80s-inspired memorabilia of retro trinkets.

As guests enter the party, they're welcomed by Johnny Vinyl himself, brought to life by an actor. Stationed behind the DJ booth, he spins some of the biggest hits of the 1980s while greeting guests throughout the celebration. Johnny embodies the era’s style, dressed in a satin varsity jacket and Aviator sunglasses, just like his guests.

As the sun begins to set, the party takes on a different atmosphere. Fairy lights shimmer above the pool while neon signs cast a glow across the venue. A cocktail bar serves refreshing summer drinks, and lava lamps are scattered throughout the space as nostalgic touches. Every detail reflects Johnny Vinyl's love for music.

The case begins

Just as the celebration reaches its peak, the music comes to an abrupt stop. Without warning, Johnny Vinyl collapses behind the DJ booth, leaving the party in stunned silence. Actors portraying fellow guests rush to his side as a crowd quickly gathers around the scene, drawing everyone into the unfolding mystery. It signals the start of the game.

The investigation begins with a briefing in an open-air gathering space centered around a projector screen. Players receive their case introduction, which presents the events leading up to Johnny Vinyl's death, along with the essential information needed to begin the investigation and the other characters, played by the actors involved. Every guest steps into the role of detective as the search for answers begins.

Players are also given an Analog Arsenal featuring iconic '80s items such as cassette tapes, a portable Walkman, Polaroid photos containing clues, and a case file housed in a folder. These items serve as essential investigative tools, providing clues, evidence, and guidance as players progress through the game.

Following the evidence

With the briefing complete and the Analog Arsenal in hand, players are free to begin the investigation at their own pace. Throughout the venue, a series of interactive evidence stations awaits. Among them is the VHS Den, a nostalgic 1980s living room complete with a vintage television, VHS player, retro carpeting, and carefully curated home decor. Players can review recorded footage for clues while enjoying freshly prepared popcorn as they piece together the events surrounding Johnny Vinyl's death.

An answering machine adds another layer to the investigation, inviting players to check for messages that may contain valuable clues left for Johnny—or perhaps even for them. Players can also record their own personalized message if they believe it will help move the investigation forward. All of this unfolds while they enjoy a selection of expertly prepared cocktails.

Players can also piece together the evidence they've gathered at the Polaroid Wall. Made with a large corkboard, the station features Polaroid photos and red string that players can use to connect clues and build their own theories throughout the investigation.

To keep the investigation moving, a hotline is stationed nearby and may ring at any moment. Players are encouraged to answer each call, as the voice on the other end may reveal new clues or important information that could shape their investigation. Throughout the experience, actors remain in character while guiding the story forward, with unexpected phone calls arriving at different moments to keep everyone on their toes.

The final piece

As the final buzzer sounds, the investigation comes to an end. Players raise their hands to reveal whether they believe they have solved the mystery before the evening's final reveal begins. The Confession Tape is then played, retracing the events from the start and revealing how everything unfolded.

The murderer’s identity is revealed through the final tape, followed by the actor's dramatic entrance, with theatrical smoke effects for added thrill. This marks the climax of the experience, where players discover whether they correctly identified the murderer and solved the mystery.
